MY FAV FREE BIBLE STUDY RESOURCES
One of my hopes for this blog is that it be a place women can go for easy and quick access to tools, resources, ideas, lists, etc. to help them as they study the Bible and follow the Lord. To remove the “fluff”, do the busywork (tasks that take up lots of time but lack true value) for them, and provide what they need in a nice, neat (and often beautiful!) package, all in one place. So that women can spend less time digging around trying to figure out what they need and where to find it, and more time actually digging around in the Word. With that in mind and on my heart, here I want to share my favorite free bible study resources. These are items, websites, and apps that help me in my own Bible study so that I can understand what God is saying in order to know, love and obey Him more.
Here are my favorite free Bible Study resources…
- Study Bibles – Study Bibles are my first and foremost resource that I use to read God’s Word and understand it. Pretty much all Study Bibles have cross-reference verses (let Scripture interpret Scripture!), as well as notes to explain complex passages and give additional information such as historical context and background. Most include additional supplements such as introductions to each book, maps, timelines, articles and word studies. Links to many of my favorites are in HERE.
- Blue Letter Bible Website/App – I mainly use this to do word studies in the original Hebrew or Greek. Like YouVersion it also has several translations, studies, devotionals, and short study notes/commentaries.
- YouVersion Bible App – I use this app to read the passage that I am studying several times in different translations (check out my article on Bible Translations if you would like to know my fav). This app also has studies, devotionals, daily verses and more, however I typically only use it for my digital Bible.
- Enduring Word Website/App – This is a great free verse-by verse commentary on every book of the Bible. Even when using another commentary I often will check out what this one has to say as well.
- Best Commentaries Website – The commentaries listed on this website are mostly not free, however the site itself is free and gives great recommendations on good commentaries for every book of the Bible. There are so many commentaries out there (some good, some not so good), so often before I begin a study of a book of the Bible I check this site out first and see if there is one that I would like to help guide me through it.
- The Bible Project – The Bible Project has great resources on understanding the Bible, and often before I start a study I will go to their site and see if they have a video on the book of the Bible I plan to study. Their videos give a short overview of the entire book, usually less than 10 minute long, that helps me get an early grasp on what I am about to study as a whole.
- Olive Tree Bible Software/App – This is my go-to platform for digital bible study. The app is completely free and comes with several free Bible translations (to expand your library you can also purchase individual Bibles, books and commentaries). It features synchronized notes, a split-screen Study Center that aligns study notes, maps, and Greek/Hebrew dictionaries directly with your reading, and offline access. You can highlight, bookmark, and sync across all of your devices…definitely one of my fav resources!
